نظرة عامة على البرنامج

Marketing and promotion now sit at the centre of how public enterprises, export and investment promotion agencies, tourism boards, cooperatives and companies reach the people they serve. The core questions have not changed: what customers truly value, how market needs are turned into useful products and services, which messages should reach which audience, and which promotional channels carry them clearly and consistently. What has changed is the environment in which those questions are answered.

India shows that change at scale. UPI, the country’s real-time payment system, processed 24.51 billion transactions in August 2026 according to NPCI data, and the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) passed 500 million cumulative transactions in July 2026, according to DPIIT figures. Buyers now discover, compare and pay in the same few seconds, which means marketing teams must plan journeys, not just campaigns.

Regulation has moved in parallel. The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 were notified on 13 November 2025 under the DPDP Act 2023, with core duties on notice, consent, security and breach notification applying 18 months later, from May 2027. The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) updated its influencer guidelines in April 2025, clarifying when health and finance influencers must hold and declare qualifications. Campaigns built on customer data and creator partnerships now need compliance designed in from the start.

Public money for promotion is also growing. In November 2025 the Union Cabinet approved an Export Promotion Mission with an outlay of Rs 25,060 crore from 2025-26 to 2030-31, including support for international branding, packaging and trade fair participation. The World Bank-supported Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme, a USD 500 million loan, targets around 555,000 MSMEs and includes work on access to markets and finance. Agencies that design and run such promotion need marketing discipline as well as programme management.

Risalat Consultants International has rebuilt this five-day programme in Mumbai around these realities. Participants work through the full marketing cycle, from market research and segmentation to the promotion mix, digital channels, compliance and measurement, using real Indian reforms and programmes as case material and preparing a promotion plan for their own organisation.

The Growing Importance of Marketing and Promotion Management

For a public enterprise or promotion agency, marketing is not decoration. It decides whether an export scheme reaches the firms it was designed for, whether a destination attracts the visitors it can host, and whether a cooperative earns a fair price. When research, strategy, communications and sales sit in separate units, the result is the role confusion, weak messages and poorly targeted promotion that many organisations recognise.

Three developments raise the stakes. Digital payments and open networks such as ONDC let small sellers reach buyers far beyond their own city, but only if they are visible and trusted. The DPDP Rules turn consent, notice and breach response into legal duties with penalties of up to Rs 250 crore. And schemes such as the Export Promotion Mission and RAMP put public budgets behind branding, trade fairs and market access, which brings scrutiny of results.

تحتاج المؤسسات بشكل متزايد إلى مهنيين قادرين على:

  • Reading market data and customer feedback to guide product decisions
  • Writing a clear value proposition for each priority segment
  • Choosing the right channel mix for consumer, business and government buyers
  • Planning content and search visibility for digital discovery
  • Designing consent notices and opt-in flows that meet DPDP requirements
  • Briefing and managing creative, media and influencer partners responsibly
  • Preparing exporters and MSMEs for trade fairs and buyer meetings
  • Building investor and destination promotion campaigns with partners
  • Running promotions on marketplaces and open commerce networks
  • Setting targets and tracking leads, conversions and cost per result
  • Reporting promotion outcomes in language boards and funders understand

Strong marketing and promotion systems help organisations:

  • Focus resources on the segments with the highest value
  • Keep messages consistent across units, regions and partners
  • Reduce wasted media and event spending
  • Protect reputation by avoiding misleading or non-compliant claims
  • Earn customer trust through transparent use of personal data
  • Shorten the path from enquiry to sale or investment
  • Show measurable results from public promotion budgets

The programme treats marketing as a management system: a cycle of insight, planning, delivery, compliance and measurement that can be owned, budgeted and improved year after year.

First Day | Marketing Strategy and the Management Process

  • Marketing, promotion and the management process
  • Marketing functions and their characteristics
  • The role of marketing in facilitating exchange in society
  • Corporate, business and marketing strategy: issues at each level
  • Marketing mandates in public enterprises, agencies and cooperatives
  • Linking marketing to products, services and service standards
  • Who owns market requirements: research, product and communications roles
  • Setting marketing objectives and indicators
  • Common causes of role confusion and how to resolve them

Workshop: Mapping Our Marketing Mandate

Each team maps who in its organisation handles research, competitive intelligence, strategy, communications and sales, then traces one recent campaign from idea to result. Teams mark gaps and overlaps, agree a single owner for market requirements and draft three marketing objectives linked to their organisation’s strategy. The map becomes the base for the plan built during the week.

Second Day | Customers, Segments and Competitor Analysis

  • Analysing the marketing environment and its critical components
  • Psychological, personal and social influences on consumer decisions
  • Organisational markets and buying behaviour
  • Comparing consumer and organisational markets
  • Government and institutional buyers as a market
  • Managing the segmentation process
  • Targeting and positioning strategies
  • Identifying industry groups and potential competitors
  • Simple market research tools for small teams

Case Study: RAMP and MSME Market Access

Participants review the published objectives of the World Bank-supported RAMP programme, which focuses on MSME performance, access to markets and finance, and delayed payments. Working as an agency team, they segment a sample MSME population by sector, size and readiness, choose two priority segments and write a positioning statement and service offer for each, explaining what evidence they would collect to test it.

Third Day | Digital Marketing, Payments and Open Networks

  • Digital marketing and social media management
  • Search visibility, content planning and websites that convert
  • Customer journeys from discovery to payment
  • Lessons from India’s UPI growth for marketing and service design
  • How open commerce networks such as ONDC work for sellers and buyers
  • Marketplace listings, ratings and reviews
  • Promotions, offers and loyalty on digital channels
  • Digital tools for cooperatives and small producers
  • Measuring digital campaigns: reach, engagement and conversion

Case Study: Selling Through an Open Commerce Network

Using public information on ONDC’s growth, groups plan how a cooperative or MSME cluster would list, promote and fulfil orders through an open network. They set out the customer journey, the product information and images needed, the payment and returns experience, and three indicators to track.

Fourth Day | Promotion Mix, Advertising Standards and Data

  • Promotion programmes and advertising planning
  • Public relations, events and media relations
  • Sales force management and key accounts
  • Briefing creative agencies and buying media
  • The ASCI code and influencer disclosure rules
  • When health and finance influencers must be qualified
  • DPDP Act 2023 and DPDP Rules 2025: notice, consent and timelines
  • Consent managers, children’s data and breach response
  • Building compliance checks into the campaign workflow

Workshop: Campaign Compliance Review

Teams receive an illustrative campaign that combines an influencer partnership, a lead form and an email follow-up. They test it against ASCI disclosure principles and the DPDP notice and consent requirements, rewrite the consent notice in plain language, adjust the influencer brief and agree who signs off each element. The output is a one-page compliance checklist for future campaigns.

Fifth Day | Export, Investment and Destination Promotion Plans

  • Promotion of exports, investment and destinations: what differs
  • Using national schemes such as the Export Promotion Mission
  • Trade fairs, buyer-seller meetings and investor roadshows
  • Working with export promotion councils and partner agencies
  • Destination marketing with tourism operators and local bodies
  • Promotion and marketing strategy implementation
  • Strategy, structure and process alignment
  • Budgets, procurement and reporting to funders
  • Personal action plans and next steps

Capstone Exercise: Our Twelve-Month Promotion Plan

Each participant or team builds a twelve-month marketing and promotion plan for their own organisation, drawing on the work of the week: mandate map, segments, digital journey and compliance checklist. The plan sets objectives, target segments, channel mix, budget, responsibilities and indicators. Teams present to a panel acting as a board or ministry and revise the plan using the feedback received.

Marketing and Promotion Training Methodology

  • Short expert presentations on each stage of the marketing cycle
  • Facilitated discussions drawing on participants’ own experience
  • Case studies based on real Indian reforms and programmes
  • Small group exercises on segmentation and positioning
  • Customer journey mapping on digital and open commerce channels

  • Role plays for buyer meetings, investor pitches and media interviews
  • Templates for marketing plans, briefs and budgets
  • Peer review of each team’s work
  • A capstone plan presented to a mock board

Learning comes as much from other participants as from the facilitators, so every contribution matters.

الأهمية الإقليمية والتطبيق

آسيا

India’s combination of instant payments, open commerce networks and a new data protection law makes it a live reference for Asian agencies and companies. Many neighbouring countries are expanding real-time payments and e-commerce, and their promotion agencies face the same questions about digital reach, trust and consent.

أفريقيا

African export and investment promotion agencies are preparing firms to sell across borders under the African Continental Free Trade Area, while mobile money has made digital payment routine in many markets. The segmentation, trade fair and cooperative marketing sessions apply directly to that work.

الشرق الأوسط

Gulf and wider Middle East economies invest heavily in tourism, investment attraction and national branding as part of diversification strategies. Destination and investor promotion teams will find the Day 5 planning tools and the measurement framework especially relevant.

أوروبا

European participants work under the GDPR and EU consumer protection law, so the consent and advertising standards sessions offer a useful comparison with India’s DPDP framework and the ASCI code, particularly for organisations marketing across both regions.

أمريكا اللاتينية

Instant payment systems and digital marketplaces are also growing across Latin America, and export promotion bodies work closely with small producers and cooperatives. The open network and collective marketing case material transfers well to these settings.

Across regions, the common thread is the same: public and private organisations must reach customers digitally, use their data lawfully and show results from promotion budgets.

لمحة عن البلد المضيف – الهند

Mumbai is India’s financial and commercial capital and a major centre for advertising, media, film and consumer brands. The Reserve Bank of India has its central office in the city, and the National Payments Corporation of India, which operates UPI, is also based here. For a marketing programme, few cities offer such a concentration of agencies, brands and payment innovation in one place.

India is a useful benchmark because it is testing new marketing infrastructure at national scale. UPI recorded 24.51 billion transactions in August 2026, ONDC passed 500 million cumulative transactions in July 2026, and the DPDP Rules are phasing in consent and data duties through 2027. The Advertising Standards Council of India, which sets the self-regulatory advertising code, is based in Mumbai.

Mumbai is served by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, with direct connections to Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa. India offers an e-Visa for business and tourism to nationals of many countries; participants should confirm eligibility on the official Indian visa portal, and Risalat provides visa advisory support. December falls in the dry season, which suits a city tour after sessions.

Why Mumbai for this programme

Mumbai, India, was chosen for this programme because it is easy to reach for the participants we expect and has suitable venues for practical, interactive training.

The Marketing and Promotion Management Training in Mumbai programme in December 2026 brings together officials and professionals. Sessions combine short inputs, case studies and group work on participants' own files, and the city's institutions can be added as a study visit on request.
