Smart Cities and Urban Transformation have become central priorities for governments and urban authorities as cities expand rapidly across the globe. Today, around 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas, and this figure is expected to reach 68% by 2050. At the same time, cities account for a significant share of global energy consumption and face increasing pressure to provide reliable infrastructure, sustainable mobility, efficient public services, climate resilience, and a high quality of life.

For many cities, particularly in developing and emerging economies, rapid urbanization is creating significant challenges related to energy supply, transportation, waste management, public safety, environmental sustainability, and access to essential services.
