Présentation du programme

Wildlife Management is crucial to maintaining the health and balance of ecosystems. It involves the strategic conservation and preservation of wildlife populations as well as their habitats. Unfortunately, wildlife faces a multitude of challenges, many of which are caused by human activities. These include habitat loss and fragmentation, pollution, disease outbreaks, climate change – the list goes on.

Effective wildlife management means we can minimize the negative impact of human activities on various plants and species and maintain our planet’s biodiversity. However, this is not an easy task. The resolution of human-wildlife conflict requires a thorough understanding of the field. In addition, one must possess specific skills vital for promoting the coexistence between the two.

This programme has been developed to aid wildlife conservation professionals with maintaining ecosystem functioning. It helps them develop a long-term vision for environmental stewardship and encourage the sustainable use of natural resources.

Profil du pays d'accueil

Over 76% of Cambodia’s population lives in rural areas. 65% of a country’s citizens owe their livelihoods to agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. With the inflow of capital and the expansion of infrastructure projects, effective management of wildlife and natural resources as a whole has become as vital as ever.

Cambodia’s natural ecosystem is highly vibrant, with a great variety of flora and fauna, coral reefs, and exotic species. Almost 40% of the country’s land is protected by law. Yet, environmental degradation is threatening biodiversity.

As the government recognizes imminent threats, it has put environmental protection alongside the development and implementation of policy and regulatory frameworks high on the agenda.
