Program Introduction

Devastating genocide of Rwanda was an eye-opener for the entire humanitarian and development community. Realizing that aid interventions did in fact exacerbate conflict instead of helping mitigate it triggered wide discussions on the need of conflict sensitive programming. Conflict sensitivity consciously seeks to minimize the negative impact of humanitarian actions and maximize their contribution to peacebuilding. It is a tool that helps aid actors understand the implications of aid delivery with its intended and unintended consequences.

Conflict sensitivity can only be effective if it is mainstreamed within an organization. To do so, it is vital that humanitarian and development workers are equipped with essential knowledge and capacity to apply conflict sensitive approach at different levels of program intervention. This training program has been designed to form a comprehensive understanding of the concept of conflict sensitivity and help its delegates master the tools of conflict analysis.
