Gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) are inevitably linked to the economic, social, and health outcomes of populations. The two are among the key ingredients of sustainable development contributing to overall growth by utilizing society’s full potential. GESI lays the foundations for inclusive policies enhancing the power of excluded, poor, and marginalized.

This training program on Gender Equality & Social Inclusion and Gender-responsive Budgeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia has been exclusively developed by Risalat to help policymakers and development workers create an enabling environment for gender equality and social inclusion. It equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to design and implement equitable projects and programs that are informed by diverse voices and benefit marginalized communities.

Fifth Day

Full-Day Practice and Exposure

The last day of the program shall be entirely dedicated to practical assignments, panel discussions, case studies, and meetings with subject-matter experts involved in GESI mainstreaming and gender-responsive budgeting. Real-life situations are to be discussed and analyzed to derive best practices and identify the ways for technical implementation. Guest speakers from development organizations present best practices and lessons learned from GESI practices in a variety of contexts.

Program Methodology

This training builds upon modern adult-learning principles. It is centered around peer learning and group engagement. Formal presentations are supplemented by group work, several case studies, and active discussions around the most pressing topics of gender equality and social inclusion.

Host Country Profile

Cambodia appears to be a party to all core international human rights treaties. This includes the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women. The country has been acting upon its commitments to the treaty promoting gender equality and social inclusion across policies, projects, and programs.

Cambodia has made significant steps in achieving gender equality over the last two decades. However, substantial gender inequalities persist, creating barriers to the equal participation of marginalized and disadvantaged groups in the cultural, economic, and political lives of society. Such an approach has been impeding inclusive and sustainable development. The country and development organizations operating within its territory have accumulated substantial expertise in GESI mainstreaming and GRB.
